Across 27 live vehicles, the illustrated monthly payments ranged from £76 to £335. The median was £167 per month, meaning half of the vehicles sat below that midpoint and half above it after the figures were sorted.

Methodology

Each figure uses the advertised vehicle price, a 60-month term and the website's 12.9% representative APR assumption. A £250 illustrative deposit is used unless a higher deposit is required to keep the illustrated amount of credit within the website's stated range. Monthly payments are rounded to the nearest pound for this summary.

The calculation assumes equal monthly payments and no added fee. It does not assess income, expenditure, credit history, lender criteria or vehicle eligibility. The website calculator and its methodology page show the assumptions in more detail.

How to use the snapshot responsibly

A monthly figure is only one part of affordability. Customers should compare the deposit, amount borrowed, agreement length, APR, total charge for credit and total amount payable, while allowing for insurance, tax, fuel, servicing and repairs.

This is dealership stock analysis, not a market-wide price index, finance quote or approval rate. Researchers may cite the figures with a link to this page and the snapshot date so readers can understand the scope.

Helpful answers

Questions about used-car affordability report.

Is this a finance quote?

No. It is an analysis of website illustrations. Actual terms depend on status, affordability, the selected vehicle and the finance provider's assessment.

Why can the figures change?

Vehicles are sold and added, prices can change and the finance assumptions may be updated. The snapshot date makes clear which stock was analysed.

Can I cite this report?

Yes. Please credit Nationwide Motor Finance, link to this report and include the 23 August 2026 snapshot date.

Does below £200 mean the car is affordable for everyone?

No. Affordability is personal and must include normal household spending, vehicle running costs and the full finance terms.
