Finance for a car at another dealership

You do not have to buy a car listed on this website to ask us about finance. Tell us about the vehicle you have found and we can discuss the next steps. We are a credit broker, not a lender. Finance is subject to status, affordability and the provider accepting the vehicle and supplying dealer.

For a car at another dealership: the example below uses the assumptions for cars listed on this website. It is not a quote for your chosen car. Confirm the supplying dealer’s full price, any charges and the provider’s rate and terms separately.

01

Found the car first? Start here

A car advertised on a dealer website or marketplace can be the starting point for a finance conversation. Finding it there does not mean you must use the finance illustration displayed beside the advert. Ask whether the supplying dealership accepts external finance, and ask our team whether a provider can consider that car and dealer. Neither answer should be assumed.

Our service is available online and by phone across England, Scotland and Wales. You do not need to bring the car to Oldham to make an enquiry. This page covers dealership purchases: do not assume a private sale, auction purchase or business-use vehicle is eligible.

  • Keep the advert link, dealer name and location ready.
  • Confirm the exact car and total advertised cash price, including compulsory charges.
  • Decide on a comfortable budget and any deposit or part exchange.
  • Ask us to discuss the route before you commit to buying.

Three steps from enquiry to a decision

1. Request a conversation. Use the callback form, with “I found a car at another dealership” selected. We will discuss the vehicle and your circumstances. Submitting this callback form does not reserve the car, search your credit file or produce a finance approval.

2. Establish whether a provider can consider the purchase. Acceptance depends on you, the vehicle and its supplying dealer. A provider may set requirements for age, mileage, use or the seller. If you proceed, it will explain the information and credit checks it requires and make its own lending decision.

3. Review the written proposal before committing. Check the car, deposit, repayment schedule, fees and total payable. Confirm any conditions still outstanding and the payment and handover process with the parties involved. A callback or initial discussion is not confirmation that funds are available.

03

Check the selling dealer and reservation terms

Ask the supplying dealer to confirm current availability, mileage, service history, MOT status and what preparation is included. View or independently inspect the exact vehicle where appropriate. Photos and a model description do not establish its condition.

Before making a holding payment, obtain the reservation terms in writing: how long the car is held, whether the payment is refundable and what happens if finance is declined or the car is not accepted. Do not assume an online enquiry prevents the dealer selling the car to someone else.

Confirm warranty, collection and delivery arrangements with the supplying dealer. The six-month warranty advertised for our listed collection must not be assumed to cover a car bought elsewhere. Your written vehicle and finance agreements determine the parties’ responsibilities; ask if anything is unclear.

04

Compare the whole agreement, not only the instalment

Keep the same car, cash price and deposit in each comparison. Note the type of agreement, amount of credit, APR, term, fees, regular repayments and any final payment. A smaller monthly payment may reflect a longer term or a large final payment rather than a cheaper purchase.

Ask for all compulsory charges to be explained. Prices and administration charges shown for cars in this website’s collection are not a quotation for a different dealer’s car. Confirm the full vehicle price and any charges applicable to your proposed transaction before agreeing.

Use our written quote checklist to compare proposals. Our calculator illustrates listed vehicles only; it is not a personalised quote for a car elsewhere. Allow separately for insurance, tax, fuel and maintenance.

05

Keep these three questions ready for your callback

Which exact car and dealership are you considering? What is the total cash price, including any compulsory dealer charges? When are you hoping to buy, and has the dealership confirmed the car is still available?

These details help us focus the conversation without collecting documents unnecessarily. Do not send bank statements, identity documents or credit reports with an initial advert link. If evidence is needed later, confirm the required documents and secure way to provide them with the team.

Helpful answers

Finance a car from another dealer: common questions

Can I use finance arranged separately from the selling dealer?

You can enquire. The selling dealership must be willing to work with the proposed arrangement, and the finance provider must accept you, the car and dealer. Acceptance is not guaranteed.

Can you finance a car I found on Auto Trader or another marketplace?

The advert can be a starting point if the car is supplied by a dealership. The marketplace listing is not confirmation of availability or eligibility. Have the advert and supplying dealer details ready for a callback.

Should I pay a deposit before discussing finance?

Do not pay on the assumption that finance is approved. First establish the terms of any holding payment in writing, including what happens if finance is not agreed or the vehicle is not accepted.

Does your warranty cover a car from another dealership?

Do not assume so. Ask the supplying dealer to confirm the exact warranty, preparation and delivery arrangements in writing. Cover advertised for our listed collection is not automatically included elsewhere.

Do you compare every lender?

No. We are a credit broker, not a lender, and can introduce customers to a limited number of lenders and finance providers. We may receive commission. Read our broker and commission information before proceeding.
